What we collect, and why

When you make a booking

Your name, email address, phone number, postal address, the number of adults and children, your chosen dates and any message you add to the booking. We need this to hold the dates, to send you confirmation and arrival details, and to know who is arriving at the house. Legal basis: performance of the contract between us.

When you pay

Payments are handled by Stripe and PayPal. Your card or account details are entered on their systems and never reach our server. What we store is the amount paid, the currency, the date and the reference number the provider gives us, so we can match a payment to a booking and issue a refund if needed.

When you use the contact form

Your name, email address, subject and message — kept so we can answer you and see what was agreed. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in replying to enquiries, or the steps leading up to a booking.

When you leave a review

After your stay we may invite you to write a review through a personal link. If you do, we publish the name you give us, your rating and your text on the relevant house page. Nothing appears on the site until we have read it, and you can ask us to remove it at any time. Your email address and booking details are never published.

Cookies and visitor statistics

This website sets no tracking cookies and uses no third-party analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel and no social media tracker — which is why you are not being asked to accept anything.

We do count page views, but only as a daily total per page (“the Ceann 12 page was opened 14 times today”). No cookie is set for it, no IP address is stored and nothing in that count can be traced back to you.

The only cookie on the site is the login session for the owners’ own administration area. It is set when they sign in, and it does nothing on the public pages.

Who else sees your data

We share your details only with the parties we need to run the booking:

• Stripe and PayPal — to take and refund payments.
• Our email provider — to deliver booking confirmations, reminders and arrival information to you.
• Our hosting provider — the server on which this website and its database run.

We keep calendars in step with Booking.com and Airbnb, but that exchange contains only blocked dates — no guest names, no email addresses, nothing about you. If you booked through one of those platforms, their own privacy policy applies to the details you gave them.

We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising. Some of the providers above may process data outside the European Economic Area; where that happens it is covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

• Bookings and payment records — six years after the stay, because Irish tax law requires us to keep our business records for that long.
• Unfinished bookings — if you start the booking form but never pay, the draft is deleted automatically within a few hours.
• Contact messages — kept while the enquiry is live and cleared out once they are no longer of any use.
• Reviews — for as long as they are published, or until you ask us to take yours down.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, have its use restricted, receive it in a portable form, or object to our using it. Where a stay has already taken place we may have to keep the financial record for the six years mentioned above, but nothing beyond that.

Changes to this policy

If the way we handle your data changes, we update this page and the date at the top. Any question about it is welcome — just send us a message.
